Aug.unis, augmented unison

Aug.unis, augmented unison, is a dissonant musical interval that is identical in sound to a chromatic semitone. It has unison in its name, yet it sounds the opposite, almost the furthest thing from unison. In the simultaneous playing of the interval of the augmented prime, a pulsating oscillation appears, calling for a divorce. The electroacoustic oscillations calling for a divorce are the main building block of the aug.unis duo. The sound synthesis is analogue, they don’t use prepared „presets“, so the improvisations/compositions are often fused into a continuous flow of layering selected oscillator frequencies and occasional rhythms.

Boštjan Simon is a saxophonist and electrophonist, who has presented the following projects to the Slovenian and European music scene in the last ten years: Vanilla Riot, Velkro, Litošt, Trus!, There Be Monsters and Etceteral. He is interested in the symbiosis of electronic and acoustic sound, exploring repetitive rhythmic patterns and the extreme sonic possibilities of saxophones.

Elvis Homan is a drummer based in Rotterdam. He is the founder of the Quartzite Jazz Quartet, which won the prestigious Erasmus Jazz Prize. He has earned a Masters degree in Live Electronics at the Amsterdam Conservatory, in 2020 he founded the Rotterdam-based orchestra of electrophone improvisers, REIO. He focuses on the Ableton Live software environment and the connection of acoustic drums to a modular system of synthesizers.
